Well...

it seems I've fallen behind in my blogging!

Thursday - walked the boys but no cycling or swimming due to a sore throat...

Friday - walked the boys, did the usual drive & ride to work....didn't do FkF due to the cold and rain but walked down to get the results and money...

Saturday - originally had planned to do Mt Ainslie parkrun but my throat was worse so we went to the walk in clinic at Tuggeranong to get it checked...no drugs required (viral rather than bacterial) and it should ease by Monday...

played golf terribly - 26pts for me and 24pts for Tammie...after golf we headed over to Jodie's and Lisa's before heading to indoor cricket...

we'd finished second so had to play third (Kaleen) in the prelim with the winner to play first (Weston Black) in the grand final straight after...

we won the toss and put them in, restricting them to 90...Tammie and I batted in the third pair and doing well...

halfway through the third over of our batting, I was at the non-striker's end when we went for a run and I felt like I'd been shot in the calf...I managed to stumble another couple of steps before collapsing in the crease...

after I was helped off the court and settled in with my leg up and ice...the game continued on with one of our earlier batters filling in for me...we ended up winning easily but went down in the grand final with one of the Kaleen players filling in for me...

off we went to Calvary emergency where I was in and out in two hours with a diagnosis of an Achilles rupture with a sizeable piece of bone pulled off the heel...I was put in a equinus cast (front slab with foot in plantar flexion) with an ortho to ring me the next morning...

Sunday we headed into the Registrar Review Clinic at the Canberra Hospital so the on-call ortho could check my x-rays etc...we spent about three hours there all up...

luckily for me the ortho was a knee and ankle specialist (Dr Joe Lau)...and could fit me in as a private patient on Tuesday...

Monday Tammie dropped me into work so I could sort out some stuff there given I was going to be off work for at least two weeks...

Tuesday...early breakfast due to fasting from 7 then no clear fluids after 10...checked into Canberra Private Hospital in Deakin at 11:20am...

I was placed in the pre-op room at 12:39pm and then moved through just before 3pm...

I was out of recovery and into my room by 6:45pm...Tammie and mum were there...the surgeon had rung Tammie as soon as he left surgery to let her know how it went....

the official report says "left ankle excision of Haglund's deformity, internal fixation of calcaneal tuberosity avulsion fracture and Achilles tendon reconstruction using Arthrex speed bridge"...

Jodie and Lisa soon joined us to make it a full house...

I had the best meal I've ever had at a hospital (perhaps I was just starving?!)...Lisa headed home not long after and Jodie gave mum a lift home (dad had dropped her off on the way to cadets)...Tammie left just before the end of Survivor - I passed on the news Lydia was voted out...

I didn't have any real issues other than a slight temperature which was dealt with by panadol...I was being checked every 30mins for the first two hours then hourly through the night...I had another dose of IV antibiotics at 4am and then again after breakfast...

the surgeon came in briefly just before 8:30am to let me know he was happy but that he wanted to see me in a week instead of two weeks...

I had a shower, a session with the physio and then I was good to go! home by 11:15am...

I'm in a backslab for two weeks so no weight bearing then I'll progress to a moonboot and crutches for two weeks then the moonboot for another six weeks and then see how it goes from there...

You need to be careful with these dangerous sports - motocross, mountain climbing, aerial skiing, cricket...

Hope the rehab goes well. I was really disappointed about Lydia, and Mat and Shane!
