Moving forward...

Thursday

had to be in Civic by 8:30am to attend a testing session for a job application that couldn't be re-arranged...fortunately they could accommodate the need to have my leg elevated and I managed to complete the testing without issue...should hear the results next week to see if I've made it through to next stage which is an interview...

I'm very lucky that Tammie has been able to help me with everything, driving me around everywhere and basically doing everything I can't do...it will be much easier for her when I can switch to the boot...at the moment I can't carry anything that can't fit in pockets!

watched the Tigers beat the Hawks...

Friday

another short outing to pick up the money and results for FkF...looked like a really nice day to run...

Jodie and Lisa came over for dinner while we watched the Demons knock out the Cats...

I have to take antibiotics four times a day (meals and one before bed) plus inject myself with Clexane once a day at 6pm...other than that I have panadeine forte and Endone for pain if required...so far I've only have to take the panadeine forte (twice by 1 tab Wednesday, Thursday & yesterday)...I have some basic exercises to do while I'm keeping my leg elevated so I don't lose too much strength...

originally I was booked in for my first-post operative appointment on Wednesday 19 September but the surgeon is keen to see me Tuesday morning for an initial review due to an issue at the distal end of the wound where a large haematoma was evacuated - the wound appeared slightly ischaemic which he thinks was from the pressure of the haematoma...I'm guessing the cast will get re-applied then I'll hopefully get the boot at the second post-operative appointment...

at this stage the rehab program is:

  • 2-4 weeks: aircast walking boot with 2cm heel lift
    protected weight bearing with crutches
    wear boot for sleep
active plantar flexion and dorsiflexion to neutral, inversion/eversion below neutral
    modalities to control swelling
    incision mobilisation modalities
knee/hip exercises with no ankle involvement eg leg lifts from sitting, prone or side lying
non-weight bearing fitness/cardiovascular exercises eg cycling with on leg, deep water running
hydrotherapy (within motion & weight-bearing limitations)
  • 4-6 weeks: weight bearing as tolerated
    continue week 2-4 protocol
  • 6-8 weeks: remove heel lift
    weight-bearing as tolerated

modalities including ice, heat & ultrasound as indicated
    incision mobilisation
fitness/cardiovascular exercises to include weight-bearing as tolerated eg cycling, elliptical machine, walking and/or running on treadmill, StairMaster
