Urban Polaris #3...

up early this morning to feed the furry beasts before heading in to the Old Bus Depot arriving just after 7:00am...got the bikes set up and then headed in to get our rego kits...we'd snagged #001 for the Davcal Express for the second year in a row!

8am was our start time (starts were in 10min intervals from 8am to 8:30am with 7hrs allowed from your start time...I only marked controls on the southside of our map as we wanted to go in a different direction last year (we are never going to be able to do both sides!)

as per last year, the map was The Canberra and Queanbeyan Cycling and Walking map...double-sided and big, made folding tricky...

as we moved through to the start line, we received the values of the checkpoints...which we didn't look at!...it was very foggy and very cold to start...

our first checkpoint on a bus stop in Griffith<

our second checkpoint was the Red Hill Camp site, also known as Canberra's Last Ngunnawal Campsite, also in Griffith...

from there we went up to another bus stop in Deakin for our third checkpoint...this one was hard to locate as plenty of teams circulated the area fruitlessly before someone rang the Event Centre to get some help...it was the next street across and a fair way up...we were all looking in Carrington St but need to be in Macgregor St...

our fourth checkpoint was Government House lookout off Lady Denman Drive...

our fifth checkpoint was in Coombes at the pink-tailed worm-lizard lookout in the Molonglo River Park...

from there we headed to Lyons and the Oakey Hill trig for our sixth checkpoint...the fog finally lifted and it turned into a lovely day...

we headed back to Hughes for our seventh checkpoint at the Yarra Glen Homestead site (which should have been our fourth but I missed it due to being on a fold!)...

checkpoint eight was at the Tuggeranong BMX park...we stopped at the bakery at the Kambah Village for a snack and to re-assess our progress...

our ninth checkpoint was at the Tuggeranong Automated Weather Station in Monash...

our tenth and final checkpoint was at the Old Tuggeranong Schoolhouse in Chisholm...from there we headed back to Kingston via the Monaro Highway......all up we collected 180 points in covering just over 69k with 14mins to spare...I did enjoy both sausage sandwiches (Jodie didn't want hers!)...
