conditions were good...the O course had a nice long leg to #2 - I took the uphill option...there was more running possible on this course than the previous ones...the Orange 1 course was 4.7k and the Orange 2 3.7k...
start temp/humidity: 17.8/44% (apparent temp same)
start time: 5:51pm
total distance: 5.37 (4.7 "as the crow flies")
total time: 52:28
avg pace: 9:46
total calories: 518
avg HR: 132
recovery HR: 97/58
my official splits: 3:42, 17:27, 2:16, 2:12, 2:18, 4:59, 5:19, 2:54, 1:11, 2:16, 2:54, 4:24, 0:36
Jodie normally finishes 10-15mins ahead of me and waits at the finish but she wasn't there when I returned...beauty I thought, I've scored a win...
after about 5mins I headed back to the assembly area to see if she was there and one of my clubmates, Kieran, told me that "Jodie had busted her finger and been taken to hospital"...crap!
luckily I had the car key (and all of Jodie's stuff was in her car) so I could head straight there...
after getting a run down from another clubmate, Coral, who had driven Jodie there...I headed in to check out the situation...Jodie was just being taken to x-ray when I arrived...apparently she had entered a watercourse to punch control 8 (of 14 & the furthest point on the O2 course) and had slipped coming up the embankment to get out and put her hand down on rocks...she wasn't even aware of the damage she had done initially to the little finger on her right hand...Emily, a Radford year 10 student helped her get back to some other people then Coral, got her back to the finish then hospital...
fortunately no break but a bad dislocation which obviously needed reduction...the doctor (Michael) and physio (Katie) had both been keen to do it with Katie winning out...it was done under local anaesthetic and took two goes as the first time Jodie's finger was too slippery...it also needed 5 stitches as although the bone didn't break the skin, the dislocation was severe enough to rip it open...Jodie had reduced the dislocation herself a bit while out on the course...
the main concern was infection and possible damage to the volar plate given that we were going to the USA on Friday...so Jodie was booked in to the registrar review clinic this morning at 8:30am...she was eventually checked out by the senior surgeon and given the all clear for travel, loaded up with antibiotics...she also checked with our travel insurer and she was covered there too (phew!)...bring on Disneyland!!
so no details from Jodie's course other than these cool maps because she left her watch running! It counts as a DNF for her...
again we could upload our GPX file to livelox.com to see ourselves "racing" against other competitors on the same course - Orange 1...I loaded Jodie's course as well, you can even see her head off in the car! - Orange 2...

today I played as the #1 player (based on handicap) in the Canberra Shield at Murrumbidgee...8 clubs play (the first 8 to nominate - this year: Belconnen, Bowral, Federal, Goulburn, Murumbidgee, Queanbeyan, RMC, Royal Canberra) with 8 players making a team...each player plays 1 player from each club in match play...I played a player from Queanbeyan...I had to give her 11 shots...I played well but she played better to beat me 4/2...
the meow brothers have been dropped off at the cattery while Tammie's mum is looking after the bark brothers...
I'm just waiting for the dryer to finish so I can pack and head over to Jodie & Lisa's...with an early flight out of Canberra tomorrow morning (6am), we are staying at the hotel at the airport...
