Premiers...

9 years after the creation of the women's team at the Gungahlin Jets (aka the Jetettes), they played in their first Div 1 grand final against one of the powerhouses of women's footy in Canberra...

Eastlake had only lost one game all season, their opening round match v Queanbeyan, finishing as minor premiers with 11 wins from 12 games (plus two washouts)...their one encounter with the Jetettes was on a miserable Friday night at GEO where Eastlake won 88-0...

meanwhile the Jetettes (8 wins from 13 games plus one washout) had needed to win their last two round games and have some results go their way to scrape into 4th spot over Riverina...

then the Jetettes had to come from behind in their semi final win over Queanbeyan before knocking off Belconnen in the preliminary final while Eastlake had a week off...

the Grand Final was at Greenway late Sunday afternoon with a breeze favouring the southern end...the end the Jetettes were kicking first..

it was a tight first quarter with the Jetettes kicking the first score of the match (a behind) and then the first goal...they kicked a second before late in the quarter, Eastlake kicked their first goal courtesy of a 50m penalty...QT: Jetettes 2.2-14 to 1.1-7...

the second quarter was just as tight, fortunately the Jetettes kicked 1.4 to Eastlake's 0.2...HT: Jetettes 3.6-24 to 1.3-9...

goal kicking was better in the third quarter but only three were kicked in total...3QT: Jetettes 5.6-36 to Eastlake 2.3-15...it was beginning to feel like history would be made...

Eastlake dominated possession in the last but could not bust open the Jetettes' defence...both sides kicked the same in the last meaning the Jetettes did make history and become the first senior Gungahlin team to win a premiership since 2008!...FT: Jetettes 7.7-49 to Eastlake 4.4-28...best $5 I've ever spent!

best on ground went to Alana Franks, a first year player, who played up forward (2 goals) and had the stickiest hands overhead mark-wise!

yesterday was a rest day exercise-wise although I did do a little running around putting out the controls for the first Spring street O event after work...Jodie helped me by driving and then we reversed roles for the collection...

the assembly area was at the Seg Glide Kiosk on the lake foreshore near the flags...

everyone seemed pretty happy with the layout and I got lots of positive comments although control 16 proved troublesome as I didn't mark it on my master map for John H to copy as well as I could have...all up there were 51 entries with 72 participants and everyone finished pretty much by 7:20pm...

this morning I was a little late starting...it was still quite soft underfoot even though it hasn't rained since Saturday...

a lovely day to ride to work...
