street O @ Aranda-Bruce

with Twilight O finished for the year, Jodie was keen to do something else on a week night so I suggested street O...the second last event of the summer season was on the Aranda-Bruce map (or Bruce-Aranda map!)...it looks like there will be a winter series as well...

we weren't sure how it worked so we got there early...we couldn't decide which course to do - there's 4 options for runners (there's a course for walkers where they collet as many as they can in an hour):

• course A - collect 18 out of 20
• course B - collect 15 out of 20
• course C - collect 12 out of 20
• course D - collect 8 out of 20

in the end we went with B when we probably should have gone with C to allow for the hilly course...

it's a mass start and the controls are all punches so no need for an SI stick...no need for a compass either really...

apparently you don't normally get to study the map before the start but this time everyone was allowed to as they were handed out about 5mins before the start...we were also asked to be back in an hour due to the fading light (normally it's 75mins for the runners)...

Jodie was our pace setter so we managed a steady jog for the most part with the odd short walk up the steeper bits...

in the end we were two controls short of what we needed but we finished with just over a minute to spare...it was a good work out...

our order was 10 - 11 - 12 - 13 - 14 - 20 - 15 - 19 - 1 - 7 - 8 - 6 - 2...in hindsight we should have got 16 - 17 - 18 after 14 and then would have only needed three on the Bruce side (probably 7 - 6 - 8)...
