Push bike hill...

had a good ride home Friday night...changed tyres to knobblies in preparation for Saturday afternoon's familiarisation ride and loaded both Jodie's and my bikes onto the car...

Saturday morning I was up early to get to Federal Golf Course (Red Hill) in time for my 5hr shift as rules official for the Amateur Open...I was covering the front 9 and had a cart to zip around in to keep an eye on things...I also had a walkie talkie in case I was needed to make a ruling...

didn't need to make any rulings but did have to keep an eye on pace of play...

afterwards I found a cache near the “Tardis” before heading to Lake Ginninderra to drop off the bikes at Diddams Close...I then drove to the end point, got changed and waited for Jodie to pick me up to go back to the bikes...

the ride started just after 3pm (there were 17 of us plus two guides - Rathin and Trevor) and after we got to the top of Aranda (after riding through John Knight Memorial Park, Uni of Canberra and Gossan Hill) we split into two groups...Jodie was struggling a bit so we were at the back of group 2 with Rathin keeping an eye on us...

from here we rode through the reserve at the back of Aranda before heading under the GDE to hit Black Mountain…all was pretty smooth sailing until we hit “push bike hill”!

this is aptly named as it is steep and rocky and has absolutely no chance of being ridden up!...it took me 26:30 to get to the top but I think I will be quicker on the day as I was helping Jodie with her bike…

our group didn't go all the way up the road to the top of Black Mountain but we did do the rest of the course...

before we got to Belconnen Way, it was just Jodie, Rathin and me...after some discussion, Jodie opted out at this point and rode by road around to Archibald Street in Lyneham as I continued on with Rathin to ride Bruce Ridge (cool single track work in here)...

we met up again with Jodie to see how she was going - she decided to stay where she was in the shade to rest so I finished the ride with Rathin (through Lyneham, Mitchell and Watson) and came back to pick her up...

it was pretty warm and we drank heaps of water…on the day it will be a lot cooler as I’ll be starting around 6:30am….I’m aiming to go under 3hrs, maybe closer to 2:45…it’s a good challenge

yesterday was a much easier with just domestic duties after I took Hodge for his long walk…

I finally got watch some of the women’s cricket on TV – good to see the Aussies clean sweep the T20 series 4-0…the four match one day series kicks off tomorrow…

had a BBQ dinner at Suze’s place where Hodge got to play with his cousin Curie…we headed home after the South Africans finished batting….Hodge was one tired dog…

at the end of the cricket I switch my knobblies off my bike for my usual commute….left it a bit late to do (finished at about 11:30pm) but I’m glad I did it last night and not this morning as I was running a bit late!

I still walked Hodge and he got to play with a runaway 8mth old poodle cross called Oleg on the oval…

had a good ride to work…the only signs of Saturday’s ride were some slight tightness in the shoulders (a product of using the brakes on the bumpy downhills!)
