Thursday
a rest day!
Friday
cycle/gym day...Day 1a of the program...
Saturday
Jets Bonding Day...
meeting at the back of the War Memorial at 7am...
we had previously been organised into teams of five and had to dress up as sporting teams thus we had:
The Lumberjacks, The Irish Beer Pong Team, The Randy Rams baseball team and The Thistles ('86 netball champs)...
each team had to bring a footy, a 5kg weight, a shovel/spade, a mask and a mascot...
the first activity was to fill up a bucket with what each team thought was 5kg of sand then carrying all items, get the team up to the top of Mt Ainslie...each team left at 2 minute intervals and total times (last member of the team to cross the line) ranged from 22 to 29 minutes...
then it was back down the track to do some games - tug of war and an amazing race type slingshot game where we had to use therabands to lob tennis balls about 25m into basket carried by two teammates...
after that we had an orienteering type activity around Campbell but in this case we could split up and didn't have to visit controls in a set order...I volunteered to run down Fairbairn Ave and the up and over Heathcote Drive, along Constitution Ave and then onto Blamey Cres to meet back up with my team (I collected 4 tags) then I had another run along Blamey Cres onto Chauvel Street, along Gellibrand Street, up and back Owen then continuing on Gellibrand then left onto White Street to again re-group and then head back to the start I collected another 3 tags)...
we had a snack break then headed to Campbell High Oval to do some skills challenges in pairs with eggs and footys (handballs right and left handed, kicks right and left footed, each over increasing distances to eliminate pairs)...then the last activity involved all but one member of the team being blindfolded to be directed inside a large square to collect 4 tennis balls following the direct on of the non-blindfolded team member and returning to the start...
finally we finished with lunch at Amaroo oval where the men were playing a practice match against Sydney University...
(there were some bemused resting runners observing our antics at the back of the War Memorial - including Brett, Nadine, Graeme P, Graeme S...)
today
was race day for Cookie's first HM...I managed to get there by 7am...and then bobbed up along the first 9k of the course to cheer her on before heading off to Gold Creek for pennant golf...
I was concerned that she had started quite quick but was pleased to hear she finished in 2:03:31 (unofficially)...!
golf was fun even though I lost my match 3/2...the overall match was squared with our #1 also losing, our #2 & #5 winning while our #3 squared her match...a good result against Queanbeyan...
hopefully this week I'll get back into a more structured running routine with the plan to continue with speedygeese on Mondays (followed by footy) until the end of March before switching to doing speedygeese on Thursdays at Dickson...footy will be Monday/Wednesday (season starts 15 April)...
