Mothers Day Classic

yesterday, after only 3 hours sleep*, I played average golf again but the weather was GREAT...

on the way home from golf had a kick around with one of my teammates that Jodie was helping...another player new to footy but quite athletic and has a good sporting background having played reasonably high level junior tennis & floorball (including representing Australia in Denmark last year)...

* I can't remember the last time I come home at 5am!!

today was the day to do a variation on a long run...I headed down to Rond Terrace early to register myself (10k) and Jodie (5k) and bumped into Al whose wife Karen was also running the 10k...Al offered to mind Jodie's number and timing chip so that solved that problem...

the 10k race got underway just after 8:30am and it was interesting to be "fed" through the narrow starting area so that we all ran over the timing mats...

I hadn't planned to go particularly hard in this one so I was mightily surprised to run my second fastest 10k ever...45:36 (!!) by my watch (official results will be up on the website Wednesday)...I knew I was running strongly but with such perfect conditions (and not having played footy earlier a la the Canberra Marathon Eve 10k) it felt really good but not really hard....and it was good to see that the k markers were pretty much spot on...this was also the debut of my new shoes so that obviously made a difference as well!

the stats:
start temp/humidity: 12.7/85%
start time: 8:35am
total distance: 10.03
total time: 45:36
avg pace: 4:32
total calories: 793
avg HR*: 176

*Time spent in HR Zones:
00:00 [Z1: 93-111]
00:00 [Z2: 111-130]
00:07 [Z3: 130-148]
02:21 [Z4: 148-167]
36:59 [Z5: 167-185]

1k splits: 4:51, 4:29, 4:32, 4:30, 4:29, 4:33, 4:40, 4:38, 4:34, 4:16

I don't think I have the ideal training regime but clearly the combination of everything including the speedygeese session and the footy trainings works for me...

Jodie arrived not long after I finished...Suze & Hux were with her...after a quick drink and a pat of Hux, I had to put a bag of stuff in the "cloakroom" and when I came back I couldn't find Jodie so I made my way down near to the start...meanwhile she was looking for me...I knew I would see her go through the start but she nearly missed doing that in the excitement of finding me again and I had to push her towards the starting area as everyone took off!

I really enjoyed running with Jodie...I managed to chat all the way around (I don't think I annoyed her too much!)...and she finished really well (I nearly got directed into the finishing chute but managed to run down the outside)...now to keep working on her to do more events!

the stats:
start temp/humidity: 14.0/77%
start time: 9:33am
total distance: 5.00
total time: 28:54
avg pace: 5:47
total calories: 391
avg HR*: 153

*Time spent in HR Zones:
00:00 [Z1: 93-111]
00:17 [Z2: 111-130]
03:15 [Z3: 130-148]
25:42 [Z4: 148-167]
00:09 [Z5: 167-185]

1k splits: 5:46, 5:44, 6:04*, 5:52, 5:26
* Jodie had to stop and re-tie both shoelaces which probably cost her 20secs

this is the fastest 5k for Jodie in quite awhile (her Customs PB is 28:11 I think), an excellent effort given she hasn't been able to do as much longer running due to work and her ribs...

now I'm off to visit mum!

That was impressive! Don't forget to update your time on the CR 10k list.
