C2S report

after having a fantastic Saturday - I played golf and won as well as broke my handicap (back to 15)...I also heard the news that the Jets (my former footy team) had won their elimination final against ANU (also the first time they'd won consecutive matches)... - Jodie and I headed up to Sydney...

arrived early and then caught a taxi to the hotel - traffic was a nightmare but we arrived close to 7pm...

got Tim & Sheona into their room (they were on my booking) then we all (with mum & dad) headed to Fujiya for dinner...

had a cool caching moment on the way back to the hotel - thought we'd have a look in a nearby park only to see three people acting suspiciously, sure enough they were cachers (from Melbourne)...had a good chat before heading onwards (after logging the find of course!)...

didn't get much sleep early due to extremely rowdy pub goers but that died down after 2am...didn't bother me so much but Jodie got a bit cranky (stress-bunny!)...

up at 7:45am...amazed to see the cricket update - England 5/82 in their second dig!!...met the others in the lobby at 8:15am (a popular meeting spot for fellow C2Surfers)...we had a nice stroll to the start, admiring some of the weird and whacky costumes...bumped into Garry & Noeline, wished them luck!

jumped into the SH1 start at 8:30am and we were off just on 9am...once again there was no countdown to the gun!

just after crossing the start timing mats I saw a Garmin310XT bouncing along the ground with one strap missing - an expensive loss! (I checked mine of course)

the k markers are really out of whack on this course with my pace seeming to fluctuate wildly...I really only took note of my time at the 5k (25:00) and 10k (50:22) markers...

passed Carol Masters after HBH...said a quick hello!...but didn't really see anyone else I knew...

I was keen to go sub 70 but really want to go around 69...I thought I ran fairly strongly all the way and right through the finish but was still shocked to see 68:25 on my watch!!...that's over 4mins quicker than last year and a PB by over 2mins...

I managed to find mum & dad eventually - they had a good position near the Striders tent overlooking the final straight, they had seen Tim finish but missed me (too quick obviously)...I was really surprised to see Jodie so early (she was aiming for 90-100mins) and even more surprised when she, in response to our cheer, did a little jump and clicked her heels before powering to the finish...86:01 by her watch!!

I moved mum & dad down to the North Bondi SLSC where we always meet but Jodie didn't appear....seems she didn't hear my instructions and only heard "blah blah Bondi blah blah SLSC"...luckily a nice CR lent her a phone to ring me (she was waiting on the steps of the Bondi SLSC) and we were "re-united"...

a quick wade in the surf was followed by a nice lunch at the Bondi RSL before Jodie and I left for the airport where we kicked back in the VirginBlue lounge (after a shower!) until our flight...

my Garmin measured 14.38k (!) but Sporttracks translated that to 14.05k...
