PB night at Vets...

perhaps taking liberties with "PBs"...of the five events I competed in, I'd only done two before!

the sequence of events was

2000m, 60m, javelin, 300m, shot put

Jodie joined me for the last three events in her Vets track & field debut...

2000m (debut)

i think there were about 15 or so of us in this event with only one other female that I could see...my aim was to go sub 9:00...I passed through the 1k mark in about 4:19 so I know I was good for my goal...did my usual last 100m hard and nearly caught one of the older guys on the line (he had about 30m on me as we entered the final straight)...finished 6th in 8:31.50...

the stats:
start temp/humidity: 24.5/53%
start time: 6:04pm
total distance: 2.04
total time: 8:31
avg pace: 4:09
total calories: 152
avg/max HR: 178/195
finish temp/humidity: 24.6/53%

edit: forgot to add the 1k splits from the Garmin: 4:15, 4:10, 0:06; with about 8m per lapd added by the GPS

60m (debut)

with about 5mins or so recovery it was onto this little sprint...I was hoping Jodie would make it for this one as she was keen to give it a go but it was not to be...I ended up running in heat 2...there were 6 of us with 4 using the blocks (standing start for me)...actually got a good start & finished in 9:58 (5th/6 in my heat)...Sharon Gibbins clocked 8.99 to win our heat...

Javelin

Jodie & I headed over to do the javelin a little early to get some tips off Jenny Bourke...Jodie had actually been quite a good javelin thrower in her youth (50m+) so it was going to be an interesting challenge...had a good field of about 13 in the end...

I pipped Jodie by 81cm with my final throw of about 22.88m which was 41cm further than I threw a fortnight ago...this time I actually managed to co-ordinate my run-up but I still need to work on my throwing arm...

300m (debut)

Jodie wasn't that keen on this one but I made her do it (evil aren't I?!)...I even managed to get her to run in the same heat as me...as the 10000m champs were being run we were only using lanes 4-8...we went off in the second heat...Jodie wanted lane 4 (she reckons it's shorter LOL) but I got it in the draw but that didn't stop her snatching it off me & giving me lane 6...there were two blokes with us & they looked quite serious with their schmick shoes...I managed to hold my ground on the guy in lane 7, even catching a bit on the bend but they both drew away from me in the straight...it was kind of weird coming out of the bend as I felt all light-headed, almost without air (I was definitely breathing though!)...managed to run right through & finish in around 53.50...Jodie finished in 68.80...

this should at least give her a better idea of the times she should be doing in the interval training she's doing with the footy umps...

Shot put

a good event to finish the night on...we got to put as well as cheer on the 10000m runners...it's also good getting to know all the regulars & be able to greet people by name...

after another tight tussle, i managed a 24cm improvement, again with my final throw to finish with 8.51m...Jodie managed 7.10m...

collected my membership card (I like the physio discount, may come in handy!!) and headed home via a cache ("A Beautiful Set of Numbers")...

*************************************************

rode in with Jodie to Barton this morning as we were doing a cache near Parliament House ("Exhibition Building")...

planning on doing Customs today, pending how my heel feels...it was particularly sore after the 60m...I iced it when I got home & used voltaren on it this morning...mind you, no more than the usual stiffness this morning...

the weekend ahead:

Saturday - golf + drive to Sydney with Jodie for the 25th Anniversary celebration of the formation of the women's division of my cricket club
Sunday - cricket v UTS Balmain & Killara (11am start): with three rounds to go we are aiming to maintain 4th position as we can't catch 3rd (this would be an improvement over last season's wooden spoon)...

Not to mention the walks!

Your 2k was pretty good - some form is returning. 53.67 is handy for the 300 too. Plenty of speed there AR. You only have to run 60sec 300s to do 2:40 for 800 metres.
