Women's World Cup Celebration...

Tonight Cricket Australia are hosting a Women's World Cup Celebration at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art to recognise past Australia World Cup winners as well as send off the current squad to England for the 11th World Cup. I was fortunate to be one of the 68 players to play in a winning World Cup team 20 years ago this December.

Here's a bit of history:

Ten World Cup competitions have been staged since the first in 1973, two years before the first men’s World Cup. It has been run under the auspices of the International Cricket Council since 2008/9. Prior to that it was run by the International Women’s Cricket Council.

Australia, England and New Zealand are the only teams to have taken part in all ten.

Australia has won six times, England three times and New Zealand once.

The first two competitions were decided on points with finals played from 1981/2.
