parkrun #85, Grand Final...

it was the perfect morning for parkrun yesterday...I caught up with Dave before the start...he is friend who had arrived from the UK the day before...an Aussie but has lived in the UK with his wife Rachel for the past 9 years...he was returning to Canberra as his mum is having an operation...

after a longer catch up with Dave after the run I headed home to get ready for the grand final...

we played Harman at O'Connor 2...a small ground with a quick outfield...I ended up with my own cheer squad with mum & dad, Jodie & Lisa (returning from Sydney after going to Adele's concert), Dave, Thomo and Colin F and his son...

we won the toss and batted, getting off to a slow start...we were 0/4 after 4 overs, then 0/4 after 5...

I was in in the 6th over (1/4) when one of our openers hit a lofted drive straight to mid on...

the other opener, our skipper, and I set about stabilising the innings...we got to drinks - 1/58 off 23...

after drinks we started to pick up the tempo and had moved the score to 90 when the skipper (44) chased a wide one down leg and under edged a catch to the keeper...

our number 4 came out aggressively from the start and we added another 24 before I was given out lbw (48) - I thought I was not out on two fronts as I had got well forward and I hit it :)

wickets then fell on a regular basis as we only added another 60 runs to be all out for 174 when we should have been looking at 200 plus...

our number 4 (26) and wicketkeeper (22) were the only other players to reach double figures..

in reply Harman came out, bats blazing and were 0/54 off 6 overs...our first change bowler picked up a wicket but was also called for throwing on a short ball that got hit for 4...his action is suspect, particularly on the short ball but we disagreed with the way it was done (after the batters had had a whinge)...this is the only game of the season where we've had badged umpires..

it was a long over in the end with some wides and Harman had moved to 1/65 after 7...

I came on at the other end and my first over went for 10 as they continued to swing hard...1/75 after 8...

the next over went for 10 as well...1/85 after 9...

in my second over I got to bowl at the left handed opener for the first time and promptly yorked him first ball...a dot ball to the new batsman followed and then I had him caught behind fending at one outside off...another dot ball followed then I bowled the new batsman, hooping a big one in to leg stump...their skipper came in and scored two to end the over...4/87 after 10...

unfortunately that was the last time we took a wicket although we did have one very difficult chance dropped at point from the skipper not far from the end of the game...

at drinks they were 4/161...I ended up bowled my 9 overs straight to finish with 3/45...in the end they reached the target in the 26th over...their number 3 finished with 57 and their skipper 45...

not the way we wanted to finish but it was a fun season...

unfortunately for me I had tweaked my back during our fielding innings, I managed to complete my overs but running around in the field was harder than normal...

very early this morning I pulled the plug on joining the speedygeese long run group at Stromlo Forest Park...

I ended up helping Jodie and Lisa move some soil and get some mulch...

I had the option to go BRunning but decided not to...I've taken some anti-inflammatories so will decide in the morning if I am running the Sri Chinmoy 10k (already entered) and playing golf...
