parkrun #68, Noosa Tri...

had a good flight to Brisbane, if slightly delayed, on Friday night...picked up the hire car (with an unexpected upgrade!) from Europcar and headed north to Marcoola just after 9pm...after one pitstop along the way, I arrive at Tim & Erin's studio (where mum & dad are staying and whose floor I'm using) just before 11pm...

awake early the next morning due to my body clock still being on Canberra time and strolled the one block distance down to the finish area of the Town of Seaside parkrun...this parkrun has been going since 20 June last year...

it was warm and muggy with most of the run in the shade on the Marcoola Esplanade...the run started on the Esplanade with the finish in Glen Retreat Park...there was a Halloween theme and a few people including some of the volunteers dressed appropriately...

only a small field...the course has two out & back points so you can cheer everyone else on...

strolled back to the studio and had breakfast on the balcony before getting ready to head to Noosa (about a 30min drive)...

with some roads already closed and competitors checking in and dropping off bikes, I dropped mum & dad off close to the main drag before heading back out to find a park...

caught up with Tim & Erin and we all headed to the event expo...Tim then talked me into swimming out to the festival pontoon (he lent me a pair of boardies)...

Erin's parents who live in Twin Waters (not far from Marcoola), dropped Madeleine off at 4pm while we were watching the Noosa Bolt 5k...we headed back to the beach for a play which was good fun...

Tim & Erin stayed in an apartment right in the middle of Noosa with Al, his wife Karen and their youngest Emily (17)...we stayed for pizza and pasta before heading back to Marcoola for the night...

Sunday morning we were all up early and headed back into Noosa at 6am...I did the drop off thing again and had to park a bit further away this time but it was all good exercise...

we found Tim and Al at the beach...Tim (green) was in the 7:43am wave while Al (pink) was in the following wave 3mins later...

it was a lovely day for it and due to the temperature of the water it was a no wetsuit swim...

everything rolled like clockwork with Dawn Fraser as the starter...

everyone, including the elites who started at 6:15am in the first wave, seemed to take longer in the swim and we later found out it may have been long by about 200m...

I helped mum & dad spot Tim as he exited the water then I tried to race through to the exit from transition to see him head out on the bike but by the time I got there I missed him by about 10secs!...I headed back to find mum and dad and cheered Al in the chute to transition after the swim...

we stayed in a nice shady spot where we could see the entrance & exit from transition as well as the finish...we saw the presentation for the female elites with Ashleigh Gentle winning her third title in a row for her fourth win in total - she started the run in 4th and powered through to win...

we got to see Tim come back on the bike (super fast dismount without stopping) then head out on the run...saw Al head back in on the bike as well and then out on the run before watching Tim finish...

Tim's result: 2:20:17 (233rd out of 4066 overall / 14th M45-49 out of 329 / 218th male out of 2897)

this was Tim's 21st Noosa Tri and Al's 10th (Al now joins Tim as a legend)

we (mum, dad & I) then had brunch at Rococo while we waited for Tim and everyone else to appear...Madeleine was asleep and she soon headed back to Twin Waters with Erin's parents...

we had a drinks and some hot chips at the Surf Club and then headed back to the expo to see if there were any good deals...

too soon my time came to an end as we headed back to Marcoola so I could drive back to Brisbane for my 7:15pm flight out...

had a lazy start today...walked the boys as usual - it was much colder than Queensland!

too late to do the Curtin park & ride option so parked near the Brazilian Embassy and caught the bus from Albert Hall...

had lunch with Jodie as she was in Civic for a course...

tonight's street O is at Hughes...
