parkrun #54, Kiama Coastal Classic...

it was quite pleasant for parkrun, no frost, no wind...

the stats:

start time: 8:03am
total distance: 4.98
total time: 22:00 (official 22:00)

18th out of 176, age 72.88%...1st female out of 77...1st W45-49 out of 14...

picked Jodie and Lisa up just after 10:30 and headed off towards Fitzroy Falls...

we stopped at Grandpa's Shed to check out the old wares...

we found three caches on the way to Gerroa, checked into our accommodation, watched the end of the Collingwood/GWS match then headed out to recce the course...

the lagoon at the end of Werri Beach was flowing out to sea - the lagoon is just before the start of the Kiama Coastal Track so we were definitely going to have wet feet!

we found a cache not far from there then headed on to check out other parts of the course before hitting the Kiama Leagues Club for dinner...

one more cache before heading back to Gerroa....some more footy, some Lara Croft, some tennis then it was time to hit the sack...

up at 7:15am for a shower before heading into Kiama to pick up my race number and event singlet from race HQ at the finish...found a cache on the way back...

I called back past the lagoon to see we were definitely going to get out feet wet as buckets of water and towels were set up on the far side...

I debated about what approach to take to that with Jodie and Lisa...I ended up not wearing socks for the first bit so I could whip shoes off to run through the water and get dressed again on the far side...

I caught up with Giles, Bill, Andy, Ewen, Jen, Dave and Charlie before the start...the race itself got underway right on 10am...

in hindsight I should have worn my Salomens and just not worried about running through the water...it probably cost me about 2mins in the end...

the course was very hilly...we had to deal with mud, sand and rocks...there were two other wet crossings although not as deep as the lagoon one...

it ended up being nearly a k short of the advertised 15k which was already shortened from the original 16k due to the big storms last month...it was good fun however and I'll probably do it again...

You've got to do it again with the shoes on tactic! That'll get you a faster time and comfortably ahead of Andy :)
