
we had to drop our bikes off at the back of North Lyneham...then go onto the event hub/finish at McDermott Place, Lake Ginninderra to collect our bibs etc...as the Lake was closed to blue-green algae there was no kayaking on/swimming in the lake allowed...so there were some course changes to be noted - basically we would all be doing the original bonus legs which only the faster teams would normally do...
our team was called "Grin and (Ainslie) Bear It!" - my team-mates were Jodie and Jai...Jai is an Ainslie Bear baseball team-mate of Jodie's hence the name...
we were bussed back to North Lyneham where the start was delayed about 30mins due to being one bus short...
First leg: run to TA 1, collect map then visit 10 controls in the "North Lyneham Eucalpyts" then back to TA 1...~32mins, good run...
Second leg: ride to TA 2 in Aranda Bushlands via O'Connor Ridge, visiting 4 controls and following HEAPS of single track visiting 4 more controls...~83mins...the single track was tricky in parts (I had one stack & spent a bit of time running with the bike!)...also took a little time to adjust from running on a 1:7500 scale map to 1:250000!!
Third leg: run - on this map ("Aranda Bushlands") only 2 controls were marked...maps were located on these controls so we had to mark the other controls in - we had to visit 10 in total...~65mins...a good effort conisdering the terrain, only 1 nav stuff up (me!)...
Fourth leg: ride to Jamison waterslide where each team member had to ride the slide 3 times (what fun) then we had to mark TA6 & TA7 on our map plus controls P-S as well as collecting another orienteering map...then ride to TA 6...~45mins...
Fifth leg: run - on this map ("University of Canberra") we had to visit enough controls (worth between 5-15pts) to tally at least 120pts...we visited 12 controls (out of a possible 14)...~33mins...good run...
Sixth & final leg: ride to finish via controls P-S...this took us through Kaleen & Giralang...~56mins...a long ride but we managed to pass 2 teams after the last control!
