last night saw my AFL debut in a practice match for the Gungahlin Jets v the Eastlake Demons @ Amaroo (Ken Zimmer Oval)...
we got hammered playing 3 x 20mins thirds (or until the lights went out on us!)...BUT we tried hard the whole game and, given that only 8 of our players had played before, the coach was pretty pleased (Eastlake are one of the top teams)...I think Eastlake kicked about 5-6 goals (we did force them to kick a lot of points) to our two points!
I played in the midfield (centre half forward flank/ruck) so got to do heaps of running...got a couple of marks and kicks as well as making a couple of tackles....I don't have much game sense as a player even though I've watched a lot so was a bit lost when I wasn't on the ball...at least I didn't give away any free kicks!
Jodie played well in the backline, repelling heaps of attacks...she got quite a few marks and kicks...
the season proper starts this weekend but we have the bye (actually 4 out of 8 teams have the bye for some reason!) so our first premiership match is on Saturday 12 April 10am @ Amaroo v Ainslie...
today I felt ok although I did discover a few bruises and sore spots I wasn't aware of last night!
rode to work and then felt good enough to do my usual 50mins at lunch...

Is AFL cross-training for running? Or golf? Where do you get the time?!
