running late thanks to work (egad!), got there as 12:45 ticked by on the clock so hurried to start at 13:00...within 15m of starting I had this sharp pain in the bottom of my left foot and it felt like there was something stuck to my shoe...sure enough I stopped and pulled out a bit of metal with two big screws attached which had pierced the bottom of my shoe and the ball of my foot...after throwing it away I continued on (remembering that I'd had a tetanus injection within the last 4 years!) with only a little bit of pain now that it was out...
quite a pleasant run otherwise although I couldn't seem to get inspired to run faster!
back at work I checked the damage...fortunately my thickish inner sole had protected me to some extent as there was only a puncture wound in my foot (not much blood) - you could see where both screws had pierced the inner sole but only one had penetrated far enough to draw blood...I suspect it will bruise a little but there shouldn't be any lasting side effects...
tonight I collect the maps etc for tomorrow's 6hr Mouse Chase...we at least get to do some planning tonight before picking up the control card and list of special checkpoints/bonus points on race morning...
"Get your skates on, your brains in tune, your pancake throwing and cooking skills up to scratch and your bowling arm in action for the Deuter Rat Race! Don't get too serious – this event is definitely for the fun hearted. There will be challenges you have never done before so be prepared to learn something new. Remember, you choose the course – get as many checkpoints and complete as many challenges as you can within the 6 hours (for the Mouse Chase teams) or 12 hours (for the Rat Race teams)."
The Mouse Chase starts at 10am and finishes at 4pm - Event HQ is Glebe Park...should be another great adventure for the pod espresso all-stars...

You know, that new 5k pb projects to something in the 46 to sub 47 minutes range for 10k if you can keep the longer training going!
