Disneyland Half Marathon Report

alarms went off at 4:40am and we were out the door just after 5:00am...

it was very dark but it was quite surreal with everyone converging on the start...there was music playing and the guy on the PA was excellent...

we were herded towards Corral A...each race number was checked carefully before people were allowed to proceed...I met two guys from disneyrunning.com, a forum for disney running equivalent to coolrunning (very cool)...it's not run by Disney though..

we heard the best rendition ever of the US National Anthem sung by a lone female...goosebumps and spine-tingling all at the same time...

the wheelies (2 hand crank and 3 standard) went off 2 minutes before 6 and then we were off...Jodie and I crossed the start at the same time but I soon headed onwards after about 100m...

my plan was to go around 1:45 but I knew that was going to be hard when the pacer went past me before the 4 mile mark...running through Disneyland, including through Sleeping Beauty's castle, was great then we hit the streets of Anaheim...

there was heaps of entertainment along the way...bands, cheerleaders, dancers of all persuasions...

running through Angel Stadium was fantastic...there were scouts cheering us on and there was footage of the runners on the big screen...I gave a big wave and cheer when I was announced!

humidity was high and I was grabbing a mouthful of drink at every second drink station and pouring the rest down my back...fortunately the cloud cover kept the heat of the sun away until about 2hrs in...

my pace slowed for the last 4 miles so I was pleased to finish just under 1:50...

I raced through the recovery area and headed back near the 13 mile mark, managing to catch some footage of Jodie as she powered through ahead of schedule!....ran back tot he recovery area, saw her cross the finish then we meet up in the Family & Friends Reunion area...both very happy campers!

our bling is massive!

Now they are some BIG medals! I like the Aussie shirts, and names on the numbers - very 'A corral'.
