next month I graduate to the W40 age group for masters athletics however this weekend I compete as a W40 for the first time in the ACT Long Distance MTB Orienteering Champs...
in orienteering competitors aged 21 or older belong to the class from the beginning of the calendar year in which they reach the given age....they are entitled to compete in younger classes down to and including 21....in my case the younger age class would be either W35 or W21...W21 is the main competition class for women...the elite of orienteering tend to compete in either M/W17-20 or M/W21...
this Sunday's event is at East Kowen, accessed from Millpost Lane off the King's Highway just before the new HQJOC roundabout as you head towards Bungendore...
the W40 class will riding on Course 3 which is ~17.5k by the shortest sensible track route (will I be sensible??)...by comparison the W21 course is ~20k (the M21 course is ~24k)...climb information hasn't been included but I expect there will be a bit!
I'm hoping to finish in under 2 hours so I can keep Jodie company on her long run...I think she's planning to run from Belconnen Basketball Stadium towards home...
