Disappointing run...

no excuses, I ran poorly today...which has pretty much been the case for anything from 10k up since January...

the goal was to run 5min ks which I roughly managed until 8ks then I just got slower and slower...

my marathon plans are now on hold (possibly to never resurface) and I will be taking a week off running to focus on other things...

on the other hand it was good to see the other speedygeese doing well - I think I managed to say hello to most of them as they ran back the other way...

the conditions were ideal for racing, even with the drizzle...

the stats:
start temp/humidity: 12.6/92%
start time: 7:36am
total distance: 21.1
total time: 1:53:16 (TBC) <<< my 3rd slowest HM
avg pace: 5:22
total calories: 992
avg HR*: 159

*Time spent in HR Zones:
00:07 [Z1: 93-111]
00:06 [Z2: 111-130]
01:42 [Z3: 130-148]
102:46 [Z4: 148-167]
07:50 [Z5: 167-185]

rough 5k splits:

25:01, 25:49, 26:41, 29:19, 6:26

mum & dad were there for the start...in fact they were there much earlier than necessary as mum thought the race started at 7!...they then headed over to the Arboretum to catch Macca's show...

I didn't hang around at all at the end..a quick change of clothes then it was off to Murrumbidgee Country Club to watch the pennant team beat Royal Canberra 4/1...in hindsight I would have been better off playing rather than running!...this puts us on top of the table in Pool A (on points difference over Yowani) with one more round to play (against Goulburn in Goulburn next Sunday)...we need to at least square the match to progress to the semi finals...

after golf we did a little bit of caching in the area including heading down to Kambah Pool (none of us had been there before)...it was good to see the Murrumbidgee flowing nicely...

on our way home we took the opportunity to the visit the Arboretum and find another cache near the main lookout (normally a harder cache to get to on foot or by bike)...fantastic views from up there, including the RAAF balloon landing near either Government House or Royal Canberra Golf Course...

Hey Bron we all have bad days and you did it and in my book you ran well. When I saw you fly past you gave me a big smile of encouragement - thank you! And don't give up on the marathon - you will have lots of good days to compensate for today. Well done. It was still a good time.

I'm with Strewth on the marathon plans. You just put this one behind you and learn from the experience. Do a short review of what you have done recently, fine tune the plan. May be you can't do 5 different activities & run a marathon as well, may be you can. That's still a reasonable run time for HM.

Hi Bronwyn, I know how you feel but do not give up on your marathon. You do so much with all your other interests I get tired just reading about them. You will bounce back because you never give up

Hey Bron, Last year I ran a similar time to your WCHM time in the ACTVAC HM champs and was a bit bummed (understatement ;-)). I then went on to run a great Melbourne marathon with a massive PB. There is something deeply satisfying about doing a marathon, don't let one disappointing run put you off!

Sorry the wheels fell off Bron, but don't make a snap decision about the marathon. Being tapered and having fresh legs is super important for long races. You raced Thurs night, and there's all the other sports too - all affecting your day to day recovery now the long runs are in there. Once you get things balanced you'll be fine.
