arrived at Vets just on 6pm and proceeded to sit down & watch the hammer throwers while the steeple chasers made their way around...
despite lots of invitations to compete I didn't partake of the hammer as I suspect I would need a lot of coaching to get it out that little gap!
competed in the discus - had a go at doing some turns int he warm up back stuck to my stationary efforts in the comp as I was getting dizzy!...managed to break 25m (just!) with 25:04m...
off to the javelin next...only got 4 throws in here as the 3000m/5000m started before this finished so I have no idea how far I threw...edit: only 20.45m...
managed to press the wrong button the start (d'oh) so don't have any Garmin details to share...I do know I went through 1k in about 4:37 & 3k in about 14:10...
personally I blame speedygeoff for me stuffing up because he was telling me I need to work on running an "even pace" as I do the "worst" pacing thanks to always starting fast then, "bang", the race was underway...
BTW, once I get over my surgery I plan on doing exactly that as I want to do more structured running to improve all my times up to HM distance...I was even considering what I would need to do to run a marathon (eek!)...
anyway back to the 5000m, I actually made sure I didn't take off at the start (which earned me a "well done" from SG) and tried to run an even pace even though I could only refer to the clock near the finish...
SG was calling out the times as we passed through each lap (I think I was doing roughly 1:50-1:57 laps) up until the final lap of the 3000m...as I was completing the 7th lap he said "go for it" before I told him I was running the 5000m not the 3000m!!...Katie broke 12:00 again - it's fun cheering on the other runners as they lap me!!...as it was I finished stone motherless last, some 700m or so behind the second last runner (there was only 4 of us doing the 5000m anyway)...even the AIS boys were starting to pick up steeples before I'd finished...
I was however quite happy with my run as I managed to run 23:38.22, only 5 seconds slower than my first track 5000m in February...
edit: I've just checked the ACTVAC website & they have lumped all the runners into the 3000m...LOL, that would make an extremely slow 3000m...
woke up to a strange noise this morning - rain!...I knew it would be gone by Customs though even though I don't mind running in the rain...
another reasonable turnout (although no Jodie due to a busy day at work) even though we are heading into a long weekend...quite windy too on the outward section...I got to the start with a minute to spare thanks to my new start time of 11:15...
the stats:
start temp/humidity: 23.6/59%
start time: 12:28pm
total distance: 5.00
total time: 24:35
avg pace: 4:55
total calories: 374
avg/max HR: 168/187
finish temp/humidity: 24.1/56%
1k splits: 4:49, 5:00*, 4:52, 4:57, 4:57
* i blame the wind here as this k copped the full brunt from Commonwealth Ave bridge to just passed the ferry terminal
I wonder if that pacing is better??

tonight (or should I say early tomorrow morning?!) I will be doing the online scoring for the Netherlands/South Africa match...I will need to have a nanna nap after work!

sorry, I had a bad night, I couldn't seem to volunteer anything useful to anyone, next time I will lie low unless asked.
You were THIRD in the 5k , and first woman as well! That sounds better than LAST!
Congrats on the podium finish AR ;)
You did look a little tired in the second half of that race. Couldn't have been just the discus throwing. I used to throw the hammer - not too hard if you don't do more than one circle, and far easier than the pole vault!
