Technique...

went for a short BRun to find a cache ("Canberra's First Schoolhouse") in Reid at lunchtime to cross off 1 May on my geocaching calendar...22 dates to go!

headed off to Parkes Place West for my running technique assessment with Will from Pure Will Running

he had a chat to me first (I’d already provided background – sport, running, injuries, shoes, training etc- to him via email the day before) then we did a run on the area we were using (grassy area outside the Treasury building) to warm up then he got me to do a lap as he ran around looking at me from side on, front on, behind...

next he recorded me running on the path next to one of the ponds - side on, front on, behind

he spoke to me about my "style" using the vision so I could see what he was talking about – gave me some stuff to work on with my posture...

got me to run some more on the grass trying those things – I felt the change straight away so good feedback...then recorded me again on the path so I could see the difference...

then he looked at my cadence...he got me to run then count as he timed a minute (got 172) which was ok but could be higher...he wants me to aim for 180 (which is deemed the “ideal” rate)...

we did some short running at different cadences using a metronome app, jogging on the spot at first to get the timing then moving off – we did it four times at 170/180/190/200 then dropped back to 180...200, while doable, was madness, felt choppy!

he then got me to combine the posture tips AND the cadence improvement (using the app) running around on the grass...then recorded again on the path...

spoke about some other things I can do away from running to help free up my chest/upper back/shoulders...

all up took about 75mins...

I’ll have access to all the recordings and he will write up a summary/report with things to work on which I should have by the end of the week (normally within 2 days but he has a 2 month old)

was positive and good to have fresh eyes...

had a slow ride home...
